He evicted the squirrels. We evicted the squatter.

Heads up: these job stories may include photos of real pests and wildlife. Not for sensitive viewers.

Innocent-looking raccoon caught in a professional live trap after taking over a squirrel den in a roof

Look at that face. Those eyes. That expression of complete innocence. If you only saw the raccoon in the trap, you'd think we'd interrupted a respectable citizen on his way to volunteer at the food bank. Now look at the hole in the roof. The defense rests. Mostly because it has no defense.

This job started out as squirrels living in the roof. Then a raccoon decided the place had potential, evicted the squirrels and took up residence himself. No lease, no deposit, no permission. Apparently the squirrel tenants had been outbid by someone offering absolutely nothing.

And he wasn't content with simply moving in. Just look at that damage. What had been a squirrel problem became a raccoon-sized problem, complete with a hole in the roof. We would call it an open-plan renovation, but usually those involve a homeowner saying yes first.

That's where we came in. The raccoon had already handled the squirrel eviction; it was our job to evict the squatter. We caught him in a professional live trap, where he immediately adopted the expression of someone who would like to speak to the property manager.

The photos tell both sides of the story: a lovely home, a seriously damaged roof and one extremely innocent-looking raccoon. Cute face, expensive habits. Unfortunately, looking sorry doesn't put the shingles back.

Scratching overhead or a new hole in the roof? Don't assume the original tenants are still the ones living there. Keep away from the animal and any trap, and call or text Gavin. We'll handle the wildlife side of the eviction — no tiny courtroom required.
