- Discarded wings near windows, lights, or baseboards
- Soft, rotted wood near showers, tubs, sinks, or crawlspaces
- Small pellets (droppings) near damaged wood

Questions
What are Pacific dampwood termites?
They're a large termite native to the Pacific Northwest. Unlike subterranean termites, they live inside damp or rotting wood and don't need contact with the soil.
Why are termites coming out from under my shower?
Dampwood termites need wet wood. Under a shower, that usually means water is getting past a missing or failed water barrier and rotting the wood underneath.
Will killing the termites fix the problem?
It stops the termites, but the wet, rotted wood is what attracted them. For a lasting fix, the leak needs to be repaired and the damaged wood replaced.
When do dampwood termites swarm in Whatcom County?
Mostly late summer into fall, often on warm evenings after rain. Seeing swarmers indoors means a colony is close by.
