Raccoons and opossums drawn to a plum tree in Bellingham's Lettered Streets

Heads up: these job stories may include photos of real pests and wildlife. Not for sensitive viewers.

Several baited live traps set on a backyard lawn in the Lettered Streets and Columbia neighborhood of Bellingham

This trap setup was in a backyard in Bellingham, in the Lettered Streets and Columbia neighborhood area.

We ended up catching several opossums and raccoons. What was drawing them in? A plum tree with lots of extra fruit falling on the ground, basically a free buffet every night.

A good reminder: pick your fruit, and clean up what falls. Fallen fruit is one of the easiest ways to invite raccoons, opossums and rats into your yard.
