Sounds in the wall near Lakeway: not a squirrel, a northern flicker
Heads up: these job stories may include photos of real pests and wildlife. Not for sensitive viewers.

We got called out to a home near Lakeway Drive for sounds in a wall. The homeowners figured it was a squirrel, but it turned out to be a northern flicker, a woodpecker native to our area.
We freed the bird and it flew away. But the way the opening in the carport was laid out made it a natural draw for that type of bird. Several other birds in different stages of decomposition came out of the wall cavity before we sealed it back up.
We screened in the entrance, which solves the problem for good. No more birds getting trapped, and no more sounds in the wall.
While doing the work we also spotted wolf spiders and black widows, so we treated for those as well.
Hear something in the wall? It's not always a squirrel or a rat. Finding out what it really is, and how it's getting in, is what fixes it for good.
